Schweinsteiger: I’m ready to play for Manchester United again

Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has confirmed that he is ready to play for the Red Devils again if manager Jose Mourinho selects him.

Schweinsteiger was initially isolated from the first-team set-up at United following Jose Mourinho’s appointment as manager and hasn’t made a single appearance this season, but the former Germany international has now resumed training with the squad.

As reported by Sky Sports, Scheweinsteiger said: “Last year we won the FA Cup. That was one of my goals. Sure, it would be great to play for United in the Premier League and also win the title with them. I’ll be ready if they need me.”

Schweinsteiger is vastly experienced and enjoyed much success during his time at Bayern Munich, but he was unable to make the desired impact in his first season at United as he struggled to cope with the pace and intensity of the Premier League.

A fine distributor of the ball, Schweinsteiger was successful with 85% of his attempted passes in the Premier League last season but he found matters rather difficult defensively, as demonstrated by the fact that he succeeded with just 37% of his attempted tackles.

Mourinho, however, appears undecided as to what his strongest starting line- up is and there could well be an opportunity for Schweinsteiger to force his way back into the team at some point.
