Pep Guardiola Mulling Over Which Goalkeeper To Pick For Real Madrid Clash

Pep Guardiola remains undecided about which of his goalkeepers will start the first leg of Manchester City’s Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid on Tuesday night.

Regular top contender Ederson is back in the running for the holders’ match against the 14-time champions, which will air live on the RTÉ News channel.

The Brazilian was benched for City’s 4-2 Premier League triumph against Crystal Palace on Saturday after being sent off in the team’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool last month.

Another strong performance by Stefan Ortega included a Cruyff turn in the first half that prevented Palace forward Jean-Philippe Mateta from breaking the 1-1 tie at halftime.

Guardiola stated: “We are really happy with Stefan’s performance, but I have to think about it because Eddie (Ederson) returns from injury and seems good, I think. So now I have to decide if a lack of rhythm for that match, I have to decide.” He is a superb custodian.”

Although they are still one point behind Arsenal and Liverpool at the top of the table, who are tied on 71 points and divided by the Gunners’ goal differential, Guardiola’s 2023 treble winners are still in the running to repeat the feat this season.

Guardiola acknowledged that additional injuries this season have made it more difficult to field a new team for each game, even if City has experience getting bogged down in multiple tournaments late in the season.

This could entail making a few adjustments for Tuesday’s match and keeping an eye on the opposition a little more.

He said: “I know everyone wants to play but I’ll have to see. The doctors will knock on the door and say, ‘OK, you can count on this player.
