Ex Chelsea Boss Turns Down Ajax Job In Hope For Man United’s

Former Chelsea manager, Graham Potter has reportedly rejected the chance to become the new Ajax manager as he expects to be in the running for Manchester United’s job ahead of the 2024/25 season.

According to London World, the 46-year-old was the prime candidate for Ajax with both parties holding talks. But it has now been confirmed that he has rejected the chance to take over from John” van ‘t Schip.

The announcement coincides with a report from Sky Sports News stating that if Erik ten Hag were to leave United this summer, the former Brighton coach would likely be highly considered for the managerial position.

Potter’s accomplishments at Brighton not only make him a strong candidate for the position at Old Trafford. But he also collaborated with Dan Ashworth in the past, whom the Red Devils hope to wrest away from Newcastle to take over as their new Sporting Director.

Ten Hag is under increasing pressure to retain his position ahead of next season. The club’s minority stakeholder, Sir Jim Ratcliffe is believed to not consider Ten Hag as the man to direct the affairs of the Red Devils from next campaign.

Since his dismissal from Stamford Bridge one year ago this month, 48-year-old Potter has not had a job.

He has already declined the opportunity to lead Lyon and the Swedish national team. And it seems that he will hold off on returning to management until the right opportunity arises.

Before serving Swansea City in the Championship for a season, the former Southampton left-back had a great run with Ostersund in Sweden prior to his time at the Amex Stadium and Stamford Bridge.
