Man United have threatened to abandon transfer plans to hijack a Chelsea deal, a tactic they employed to finally sign Mason Mount.
After hitting an impasse with Chelsea over Mount this summer, Manchester United disclosed interest in Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo, who the Blues still want.
Four days later, Manchester United and Chelsea agreed on a fee for Mount, for whom the Blues had previously demanded £70 million.

Man United were able to persuade their competitors to accept a deal for £60 million plus add-ons in order to capture their primary midfield target.
Erik ten Hag’s side appear to have developed a taste for tormenting Chelsea hijackers, with rumors on Monday indicating that they may play a similar game with Rasmus Hojlund.
Despite being touted as ‘favourites’ by Fabrizio Romano to sign the Atalanta forward, the two clubs are still at odds over a cost for Hojlund.
Atalanta are said to seek roughly £86 million for the Dane, with Manchester United hesitant to pay much more than £60 million.
The number has been established as their cap due to ‘strict financial constraints governing spending,’ according to the Daily Telegraph, which reported on Man United’s FFP concerns.
Man United have a restricted budget to recruit their chosen center-forward after paying an initial £99 million or thereabouts on Mount and Inter goalkeeper Andre Onana, while bringing in minimal payments for Alex Telles, Zidane Iqbal, and Charlie Savage.
They consequently see the £86m valuation of 20-year-old Hojlund and his 93 senior games as ‘outlandish’.
And, according to the Telegraph, they may be willing to drop their pursuit of the striker because they have ‘other options.’
