Trent Alexander-Arnold, Tomori Dropped From England Squad For Germany Game

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Fikayo Tomori have been been left out of England matchday squad to face Germany tonight at Wembley.

Both were unused subs in Friday’s match against Italy at San Siro, where Giacomo Raspadori’s second-half winner gave the European champions a 1-0 victory.

That result relegated England to relegation from League A Group 3 in the Nations League, indicating that Southgate’s team will play in League B in the following cycle.

The Three Lions remain winless after five games of the 2022-23 competition, and the visit of Germany marks their penultimate competitive fixture before the World Cup in Qatar in 2022.

Southgate sidelined five players on matchday five, including the suspended John Stones, Jordan Henderson, Ivan Toney, Ben Chilwell, and Marc Guehi.

Who Has Been Left Out Of The England Matchday Squad?

Southgate has called up each member of the quintet for the encounter against Germany, but there is no room for Alexander-Arnold or Tomori.

Liverpool’s right-back Alexander-Arnold has only featured for 62 minutes for England since the turn of the year, and he will miss his fifth game in a row here.

The 23-year-old has only 17 caps for England since making his senior debut in 2018, and he will sit this one out alongside AC Milan center-back Tomori.

Despite playing a key role in the Rossoneri’s Serie A title success last season, Tomori has continued to face competition for international minutes from Harry Maguire, Kyle Walker, and Conor Coady.

The 24-year-old has only three England caps to his name, the most recent of which came in June’s draw with Italy, and Southgate has omitted him from the team following Stones’ return from suspension.

While Stones has returned from his own suspension, Manchester City teammate Jack Grealish received his second Nations League booking on Friday night and will be sidelined for tonight’s encounter.

Southgate has also left out West Ham United’s Jarrod Bowen, who has had a terrible start to the domestic season with the capital side, while Toney has made the squad.

The Brentford midfielder is vying for his first Three Lions cap this week and was left out of the squad to face Italy, but he will most likely start on the bench at Wembley before a possible substitute cameo.

Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse has also been dropped to make room for the return of Jordan Henderson, who appears to have fully recovered from a hamstring injury.
