Totti: Cassano could have been 100 times better and he knows it

Roma forward Francesco Totti has picked out former teammate Antonio Cassano as the player he most enjoyed playing alongside.

Cassano and Totti played together at Roma and the Italy national side for a number of years, a period which the 40-year-old recalls as one of the most memorable in his illustrious career.

Speaking at the launch of a new Nike commerative boot in his honour (via Football Italia), he said: “The team-mate with whom I enjoyed playing with the most is [Antonio] Cassano, I’ve always said it.

“The only mistake he made was that he could have been 100 times better, and he knows it.”

Cassano spent five season in Rome between 2001 and 2006, making 118 appearances for Roma and scoring 39 goals before a big-money move to Real Madrid.

Totti is regarded as one of Italy’s finest players of all time and has displayed unprecedented devotion to Roma throughout his career.

The former Italy international, who won 58 caps for his country, made his debut for the club in 1992 and has since racked up nearly 800 appearances across 25 seasons.
