Sadio Mane Set To Miss Out On Qatar World Cup For Senegal

Senegal star, Sadio Mane, is expected to miss the 2022 Qatar World Cup due to an injury, according to reports.

The former Liverpool forward was withdrawn from Bayern’s 6-1 win over Werder Bremen on Friday night.

Dino Toppmoller, an assistant coach for Bayern, said during the game that Mane had been “hit on the leg” but the injury was “not too serious.”

Meanwhile, manager Julian Nagelsmann said scans will be required to establish the severity of the injury.

“That’s an unpleasant spot, it radiates a bit into the muscles,” Nagelsmann said.

“I think he has to go to the X-ray to see if there is something there, because it is splintering easily. But I hope that nothing is wrong. I can’t say anything for sure yet.”

Reporting on Wednesday morning, French outlet L’Equipe has claimed Mane has now been ruled out of the tournament.

Unfortunately, this would be a huge blow to a Senegal side he inspired to Africa Cup of Nations glory earlier this year.

Mane netted the game-winning penalty in the tournament’s final shootout against Egypt, whom Senegal also defeated in a playoff to qualify for Qatar.
