Roy Keane Rips Into Rashford And Hojlund For ‘Messing About’

Roy Keane gave critical assessments on Manchester United forwards as they squandered so many chances in their 2-0 win over Wigan Athletic in the 3rd round of the FA Cup on Monday.

United had 33 shots on goal, 14 of which were on target. In the end, the Red Devils only succeeded in beating Latics’ outstanding young goalkeeper Sam Tickle twice. Once through a curling shot from Diogo Dalot in the 22nd minute and again via a penalty kick from Bruno Fernandes in the 74th minute.

In spite of Marcus Rashford’s excellence in front of goal which prompted saves from Tickle and the crossbar strikes from Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund. United’s forwards have now failed to score in 18 of their 23 domestic games.

Keane, United’s former captain was particularly critical of Rashford, questioning both his application and attitude.

What Did Keane Say About Rashford And Hojlund Display?

“I have high expectations of Rashford – I always want a bit more,” Keane told ITV Sport as echoed by Irish Independent.

“He’s got I think one or two bad habits, where he’s stopping the ball and trying the flicks at the wrong time. I don’t think he runs in behind enough.

“I think we were getting frustrated watching him, I think United fans were frustrated watching him.”

Keane continued by saying that after squandering so many opportunities, Hojlund and the other forwards for United needed to do more to justify their spot in Erik ten Hag’s starting lineup.

“We wanted United to show a different side of their game, but they’ve brought their habits from the Premier League into this game, in terms of missing chances and not being clinical,” added Keane.

“I wanted to see another United tonight. With the striker, he is missing chances. We can say ‘unlucky’ all day. They’re creating chances, just put it in the back of the net, stop messing about!”
