Ronald Araujo: Barcelona Star Undergoes Successful Surgery On Thigh Injury

Ronald Araujo has successfully undergone a successful surgery on a thigh injury, Barcelona have confirmed via an official statement.

The Uruguay international played in September friendlies for his country and was selected to the starting lineup for last Friday’s match against Iran.

However, Araujo only lasted five minutes of the game before being replaced due to a thigh injury, and he immediately went back to Barcelona for further examination.

It was soon decided that the 23-year-old would need to have surgery to fix the problem, and he was transported to Finland for the surgery earlier this week.

Barcelona announced on Wednesday morning that Araujo’s surgery went well, although the Blaugrana were unable to provide a timeframe for his recuperation.

“First team player Ronald Araujo has been successfully operated on for his adductor longus avulsion injury in his right thigh,” said a statement on fcbarcelona.com.

“The procedure was carried out by Dr. Lasse Lampainen under the supervision of the Club’s medical services in Turku, Finland. The player is unavailable for selection and his recovery will dictate his return.”

The former Boston River star has grown into one of Xavi’s most trusted defenders, but he is now in danger of missing the 2022 World Cup in Qatar due to surgery.

Araujo’s injury is one of several issues that have arisen for Barcelona, whose treatment room has been mainly empty this season, during the international break.

Both Jules Kounde and Ousmane Dembele were injured with France, however the latter was able to make the bench for Les Bleus’ recent 2-0 loss to Denmark after recovering from a calf injury. However, Kounde is yet to bounce back from his injury.
