Marcus Rashford ‘Expected To Be Fit For Sunday’s Manchester Derby’

Manchester United attacker Marcus Rashford is reportedly winning his battleto be fit for Sunday’s Premier League derby with Manchester City.

The 24-year-old dropped his scoring ability under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick in the 2021-22 season, and a summer exit was discussed.

Erik ten Hag finally chose to keep Rashford, who has thrived in the number nine role while Cristiano Ronaldo sits out of favour and Anthony Martial is sidelined with an Achilles injury.

The England international has three goals and two assists in his first six Premier League games, but he has been ruled out of his team’s Europa League games against Real Sociedad and Sheriff Tiraspol due to a hamstring injury.

Rashford was left out of Gareth Southgate’s England team for the UEFA Nations League matches against Italy and Germany in September due to his injury.

Will Rashford Be Available For Sunday’s Manchester Derby

Concerns were immediately raised that Rashford will miss Manchester City’s visit to Old Trafford on October 2, which will be Man United’s first Premier League game since thrashing Arsenal 3-1 on September 4.

As per The Sun, Rashford is ‘winning his battle’ to recover from his injury and could be fit to lead the line against the English champions this weekend.

The Englishman has already returned to training and is feeling recharged ahead of the visit of Pep Guardiola’s men, as Man United look to win their fifth Premier League game in a row.

Rashford has now scored 96 goals and provided 60 assists in 309 appearances for Manchester United, and England manager Gareth Southgate has been encouraged by the striker’s recent improvement.

“There were certain players we wanted to keep involved this time, but that said it doesn’t mean that this is the end for some of the others who aren’t involved,” Southgate said after selecting his September squad.

“Marcus Rashford, for example, has shown some encouraging signs recently. He is a player we know well so if he can perform at a high level in the next few weeks, he of course will be under consideration.”

While Rashford may be available for Sunday, Manchester United are still dealing with a slew of injuries, including Harry Maguire, who is said to have picked up a hamstring injury in England’s 3-3 Nations League match with Germany on Monday.

The 29-year-old was instrumental for Die Mannschaft’s opening two goals on another troubling night, and it has been reported that he could be out for a few weeks after playing through the level of pain at Wembley.
