Romelu Lukaku ‘Emerges As Transfer Target For Real Madrid’

Real Madrid are reported to be interested in Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku during the summer transfer window.

Los Blancos are widely expected to acquire a new forward ahead of the 2023-24 season, with Mariano Diaz due to go on a free transfer, leaving the Spanish and European champions without a known replacement for Karim Benzema up front.

Alvaro Rodriguez made headlines last weekend when he scored against Atletico Madrid in the Madrid derby, although the 18-year-old has only made three senior outings.

According to Fichajes, Lukaku has emerged as a target for Carlo Ancelotti’s side, with the Belgian desperate to leave the Blues permanently this summer.

According to the report, the 29-year-old ‘aspires to play for Real Madrid,’ and the capital club have identified him as a possible acquisition to enhance their attacking options.

Lukaku played for Inter between 2019 and 2021, collecting 64 goals in 95 games before joining Chelsea in a £97.5m move.

The forward only scored 15 goals for the Blues during the 2021-22 season, and he returned to Inter on loan over the summer.

Lukaku has struggled with fitness this season, limiting him to just 15 appearances across all competitions.

Inter are thought to be interested in re-signing the Belgian on a permanent basis, although the Italian club’s CEO, Giuseppe Marotta, recently stated that it was far from certain that he will be at San Siro next season.

Uncertainty surrounds Chelsea’s plans for Lukaku this summer, but given that he is under contract to the Blues until June 2026, they would be well-positioned to seek a high transfer fee.

Chelsea may want to sell the striker this summer in order to generate the funds needed to sign Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.
