In Real Madrid’s most recent match against Atletico Madrid, Federico Valverde received a red card for a reckless challenge on Alex Baena, which the referee decided was enough to send the player off.
As a result, the midfield player received a one-match suspension, which means he won’t play against RCD Mallorca.
Los Blancos, however, are adamant that the red card was issued because of the history between the two players and that it would have only been a yellow card if any other player had been the target.
The men in white submitted an appeal to have the one-match punishment lifted because of their strong convictions.
Appeal Rejected
But according to Diario AS, the RFEF Appeals Committee dismissed Real Madrid’s argument and maintained the RFEF Competitions Committee’s decision to suspend Valverde for one game.
Since he must serve a one-game ban, the player will miss Real Madrid’s next match and won’t be available when the team plays Mallorca right after the international break.

Los Blancos contended that the referee’s report was inaccurate. They argue that Valverde was well within range of gaining possession and that his tackle was not made “without being at a distance to play the ball.”
The committee said that the action was a part of play and would be seen as a direct consequence of it, but they did not believe the accompanying video evidence to be sufficient to reverse the suspension.
Valverde will therefore play for Real Madrid in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal against Bayern Munich at the Santiago Bernabeu.
