Chelsea are weighing up a summer move for Real Madrid left-back Álvaro Carreras following Marc Cucurella’s transfer to the Spanish giants. With Cucurella’s departure bringing in €55 million plus add-ons, Chelsea are now assessing options to strengthen the position ahead of the new season.

The London club believe young defender Jorrel Hato can play a significant role at left-back, but he remains their only specialist option in the squad. As a result, Chelsea are actively monitoring the market for additional cover and competition.
Carreras has emerged as a potential target due to his experience, versatility and familiarity with English football. The Spaniard previously spent time at Manchester United and also featured on loan for Preston North End before returning to Spain.
Carreras Faces Uncertain Future At Real Madrid
Competition for places at the Bernabéu could open the door for a Premier League return.
According to reports in Spain, Chelsea are considering an approach for Carreras just one year after he joined Real Madrid from Benfica in a €50 million deal. The move was approved by manager José Mourinho, who viewed the defender as a key addition to his squad.
However, Carreras now faces intense competition at the Bernabéu. Real Madrid currently have four recognised left-backs, including Fran García and Ferland Mendy, creating uncertainty over his long-term role, reports Caught offside.
The 23-year-old enjoyed a promising start to life in Madrid and was widely praised during the opening months of the campaign. His form later declined as Real Madrid struggled for consistency, eventually losing his place in the starting lineup.
Despite his desire to remain in Spain, Chelsea believe a move could become possible if regular first-team opportunities remain limited. Real Madrid are expected to seek a fee close to the amount they originally paid, making any deal a significant investment for the Premier League side.
