Puyol: Messi Will Always Be Welcomed At Barca

Carles Puyol has said Lionel Messi will be welcomed back to Barcelona from Paris Saint-Germain if he wishes to finish his career at the Camp Nou.

The Argentinean signed a two-year contract with PSG after leaving Barcelona on a free transfer last year.

However, club officials including president Joan Laporta and coach Xavi have remained certain that they would welcome the 35-year-old’s return. Furthermore, ex-teammate Puyol has now become the most recent to do so.

However, Messi and PSG are off to a strong start this season and are considered candidates to win the European competition. Messi himself has scored three times in Ligue 1 so far this term, while also registering five assists.

What Did Puyol Say?

Speaking to reporters, Puyol mentioned: “It’s not too late for a Leo Messi return.

“He has one year left in his contract and many things can happen in that time. It depends on Xavi and Leo, but he will always be welcomed at Barca.”

At the end of the current campaign, Messi’s contract with PSG will expire. It remains to be seen if Messi will return to Spain.

His tenure with the French team hasn’t exactly gone as planned, especially his first season.

After the team’s Champions League elimination in the 21/22 season, he and co-star Neymar were frequently booed by the Parisian crowd.
