PSG Pondering Victor Osimhen And Marcus Rashford To Replace Kylian Mbappe

Though 90min understands that Paris Saint-Germain has a shortlist of potential replacements in case Kylian Mbappe leaves this summer, the team has not received word from Mbappe about his departure.

According to 90 min, Mbappe’s contract expires at the end of the current campaign, and Real Madrid is pushing to sign him. Though the forward has promised to inform PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi first once he has made a decision regarding his future, nothing has been decided upon completely as of yet.

It’s also possible that Mbappe, who has expressed his desire to play for both PSG and Real Madrid, will be a free agent come summertime and decide on his future after representing France in both their home Olympics and Euro 2024. If he renews his contract, the latter have already given him the go-ahead to do so.

Mbappe chose not to sign a one-year extension last summer, so his contract expires at the end of the current campaign. Mbappe has given up between €70m and €80m in loyalty bonuses and other variables as part of a complex agreement with PSG that means they are financially covered should he depart, even though it means PSG will lose him for free.

According to sources who spoke with 90min, this amount will help pay for Mbappe’s replacement should it become necessary.

Marcus Rashford, a forward for Manchester United, has been a past target for PSG and is currently of interest. Al-Khelaifi spoke with Rashford’s team early in the summer of last year as well as in 2022 regarding a possible transfer, but the French champions felt they were being used as bargaining chips in their contract talks with the Red Devils.

Rashford has the kind of profile PSG is looking for, so if a window of opportunity arises this summer, they might try again to sign him—but only after getting confirmation from the player that he truly wants to play for them.

Despite rumors that Rashford might force his way out of United after an eventful 2023–24 season, there is currently no hard evidence that he wants to leave Old Trafford. However, there are still a lot of moving pieces that could alter Rashford’s viewpoint, including the arrival of INEOS and their assumption of sporting control, as well as the likelihood of manager Erik ten Hag’s job being reviewed this summer.

PSG is also considering Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, who recently agreed to a new contract that runs through 2026 and has a release clause worth more than €100 million. Although Osimhen has prior Ligue 1 experience with Lille, PSG believes he will instead play in the Premier League this summer.

PSG has also long admired Benjamin Sesko, the striker for RB Leipzig, who is viewed as more practical target. €50 million release clause in the 20-year-old’s contract goes into effect in the summer, and it is anticipated that he will leave Leipzig in 2024.
