Only Platini has scored more European Championship goals than Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo is now only behind Michel Platini for goals at the European Championships with eight.

Ronaldo scored twice during Portugal’s 3-3 draw with Hungary to mean his team go through Group F in third place as one of the best placed teams.

Hungary took the lead in the game before Nani equalised but they went back in front twice more. On both occasions Ronaldo was the player to bring his country back into the game, first with a clever backheeled finish and then with a fine header.

He is now on eight goals at the European Championships, and that is one behind Platini who scored nine for France.

Ronaldo is also the first player to ever score in four European Championship finals in a row and he has helped Portugal to go through to the next round.

Now that they are through they can focus on trying to work their way through the knock-outs and the team will be confident that they can progress with Ronaldo in their side.

Hungary still go through as the group winners with five points, and no defeats, whilst Iceland are now in second after their late victory over Austria.
