Iceland manager Lars Lagerback has aimed a dig at England ahead of their Euro 2016 clash saying he’s looking forward to play the Three Lions as he’s never lost against them.
Lagerback was in charge of Sweden between 2000 and 2009 and during that time he played England four times, winning once and drawing three times.
Following his team’s dramatic late winner against Austria, to put them second in Group F it is confirmed that they will now play England in the second round after they finished second in Group B.
Speaking at his press conference after the 2-1 win over Austria, Lagerback revealed his delight at facing England.
Lagerback said: Playing England is rather nice. I never lost against them with Sweden.”
Iceland only have a population of 330,000 but they are undefeated so far at Euro 2016, having beaten Austria and drawn against Hungary and Portugal, the other two teams to have progressed to the next round.
England, meanwhile, beat Wales in their group but they drew with Russia and Slovakia resulting in the Three Lions finishing behind Chris Coleman’s side in their group.
Both England and Iceland are in the more difficult side of the path to the Euro 2016 final alongside France, Spain, Italy and Germany.
Portugal go into the other side of the group following their draw with Hungary and they will face Croatia, who finished ahead of Spain in their group.
