Pep Guardiola Tight-Lipped On Kyle Walker/Neal Maupay Clash Despite Man City’s Win

Pep Guardiola intervened to mediate a furious altercation between Brighton’s Neal Maupay and Manchester City’s Kyle Walker on the field.

The event occurred during Monday night’s 3-1 victory for City at the Gtech Community Stadium. Thanks to Phil Foden’s hat-trick, City defeated Liverpool, cutting their advantage in the Premier League to just two points. Even after the victory, Walker and Maupay had some late drama.

Guardiola then spoke to Walker while Maupay was talked to by Garrett. He  didn’t reveal any details about the incident in his post-match press conference. When asked about it, he simply said: “Nothing. next question,” Brighton’s manager Thomas Frank admitted he saw the incident but didn’t know the specifics.

Less than a week has passed before Maupay and James Maddison of Tottenham engaged in a similar altercation at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

After scoring the opening goal against Spurs, Maupay mimicked Maddison’s signature dart-throwing celebration. But Maddison and his teammates, who rallied late to secure an exciting 3-2 victory, received the final applause.

“I just said to him, he hasn’t scored enough goals of his own in the last few years to have his own celebration, so he had to copy mine,” Maddison joked about Maupay in an interview with TNT Sports following the game. Our little story had a happy ending.

Compared to James Maddison, I have more goals and less relegations in my career. On Monday, we go again.”Walker and Maupay will cross paths on the field once more on February 20, when Manchester City hosts Brentford in another crucial match. In the meanwhile, the champions will play Everton this coming Saturday.
