Muller Aims Subtle Dig At Lionel Messi After UCL Elimination

Following Paris Saint-Germain’s elimination from the Champions League by Bayern Munich on Wednesday, Thomas Muller has launched a thinly-veiled jab at Lionel Messi.

PSG were eliminated by Bayern Munich on Wednesday, meaning they will miss out on the prestigious Champions League for another year.

Bayern defeated PSG 2-0 on the night (3-0 on aggregate) thanks to goals from Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Serge Gnabry to advance to the next round of the competition.

Meanwhile, PSG’s superstars, Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi, failed to have an impact on the game as they continue to chase the club’s first ever Champions League title.

What Did Muller Say About Messi and Ronaldo?

Muller has now rubbed salt into Messi’s wounds by firing a subtle dig after Bayern’s victory as he referenced Cristiano Ronaldo. He said ‘things always go well’ for the German giants against the Argentina legend, claiming Ronaldo at Real Madrid was their problem.

“Against Messi, things always go well at all levels in terms of results,” he said after the result.

“At club level, Cristiano Ronaldo was our problem when he was at Real Madrid. But I have the greatest respect for Messi’s World Cup performance.

“Messi’s individual performance at the World Cup was amazing. He carried the whole squad. It’s not so easy to play at a team like PSG. It’s difficult to get a really good team balance.”

It was another defeat for Messi against Bayern, who have previously beaten Barcelona 7-0 and 8-2.
