Marco Asensio Close To Signing New Real Madrid Contract After Long Saga

Spanish star Marco Asensio is reportedly set to sign a new Real Madrid contract, putting an end to lengthy negotiation talks with the Spanish club.

The forward’s future has recently been up in the air as his current contract is set to expire in the summer and a number of clubs were interested in signing him on a free.

Having just been a part of Carlo Ancelotti’s team on the periphery at the beginning of the season, it had appeared that Asensio would leave at the end of the campaign.

However, he has assumed a more significant position since the World Cup, and given that Ancelotti also wants the Spanish star to remain, Asensio is reportedly prepared to commit his future to the team, according to the Athletic.

Asensio has been a member of Madrid’s squad for nine years after joining from Real Mallorca, but following a couple of loans out he has only featured for the Real Madrid first team since 2016.

A year later he signed a new contract – the one that is now on the brink of expiring.

The report indicates that while an agreement is inevitable, there are still negotiations continuing over the length of the contract.

Terms of four and five years are still in discussion and the salary agreement in line with these, although it doesn’t appear to be too much of a hurdle for either side.

Asensio has been linked with Arsenal and Newcastle in recent times as well as Barcelona but with improved game time appears much happier to now stay at the Bernabeu.
