Manchester United Finalising Bid To Sign Porto’s Diogo Costa

Manchester United are reportedly finalising a bid to sign Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa depsite the 23-year-old stating that he would like to remain in Portugal.

There is much concern in the goalkeeping department at Old Trafford, with David de Gea still unwilling to agree on a new contract with the Red Devils.

De Gea’s contract is set to expire at the end of the month, while number two Tom Heaton’s contract expires on June 30.

An statement regarding De Gea will be issued soon, with the Spaniard reportedly rejecting down a slew of big-money offers from Saudi Arabia in order to stay at Old Trafford.

Costa has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent months, and the 20-time English champions are planning to make an offer, according to Cofina Media.

According to the report, Porto are in need of a financial boost before the end of the month, which has put the Portuguese giants open to offers, possibly for less than the £65m release clause in his contract.

During the 2022-23 season, the 23-year-old was in excellent form for his Portuguese team, preserving 20 clean sheets in 41 games across all competitions while conceding only 30 goals.

Costa recently dismissed speculation that he could join Man United this summer, stating that he intends to stay at Porto until the end of his contract in 2027.

The goalkeeper has seven clean sheets in 15 Champions League games for his current club, and 32 in 70 league appearances.
