Man United Legend Delves Into Ten Hag’s Captaincy Decison

Manchester United icon, Paul Scholes claims manager Erik ten Hag is spot on in the decision to name Bruno Fernandes as the captain of the club. He also stated that Casemiro and Raphael Varane are great leaders in the team.

When Harry Maguire was left out during the previous season, Fernandes assumed the role of on-field captain. And he wore the armband for the bulk of the games.

Ten Hag said the playmaker, who has been a reliable player for United since his January 2020 arrival, has a “very good personality” and is a “character” in the club.

Incredibly, Fernandes has never missed a United game due to an injury. And he has consistently played for the team.

Although the 28-year-old’s antics on the field have occasionally drawn criticism, those around the club still view him as a leader.

According to Manchester Evening News, Scholes claimed that United’s roster contained a number of leaders. However, he did acknowledge that he does not consider Marcus Rashford to be a skipper.

What Did Scholes Say About The Captaincy Group At United?

Speaking to YouTube show FIVE, Scholes said: “I know when Harry lost his captaincy, people were talking about Marcus being [the next one] – I never saw that.

“Look, I don’t know him in the dressing room but he wouldn’t be someone who strikes me as being a captain.

“Whereas Bruno has done it, hasn’t he? I think now for the first time, there’s quite a few leaders in the team. You think of the experience they’ve got, with the manager they’ve brought in.
