Liverpool’s Forward-Line Is A ‘Wise Investment’

Although Liverpool’s forward line is changing, boss Jurgen Klopp thinks the team is already benefiting from the longer-term preparations made this season.

Principal owner John W Henry spoke of his continued dedication to the team and the need to “invest judiciously” in the week following the 7-0 demolition of Manchester United.

Darwin Nunez, a £64 million acquisition in June, and Cody Gakpo, who signed in January, have recently made significant progress.

And it appears that they will help the team easily adapt after losing Sadio Mane last summer. With Roberto Firmino announcing he is leaving the Merseyside club at the end of the campaign.

Both players scored twice over the weekend, with Nunez having scored four in four games adding to his total of 14 on his debut campaign in England.

While Gakpo has four in six, helping to reduce the negative impact of the absence of Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz for an extended period of time.

What Did Klopp Say About The Forward Line?

Ahead of the clash against Bournemouth, Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp spoke about the squad with emphasis on the forward line.

“John is right. Look at the players we have brought in the last couple of transfer windows, Luis, Darwin, Cody, players for the first line,” said Klopp via Liverpool Echo

“I think Sadio, Bobby and Mo (Mohamed Salah) together were for quite a while one of the best front three in world football.

“Then Sadio left in the summer, we will see what happens to Bobby in the summer, and only Mo is left pretty much. But we replaced them and Diogo came in that time as well.

“That’s investment, and it’s wise investment and responsible investment. That’s what you want and what you need and what we needed.

“This year they were unfortunately most of the time injured, that didn’t help, but they were here anyway and Cody only came later.

“This has to be now, in a similar manner we will do that for other parts of the team and that will be possible.”
