Jude Bellingham Set To Withdraw From England Squad To Undergo Knee Surgery?

Jude Bellingham is reportedly set to withdraw from the England’s upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers due to fears that he might require surgery to treat a knee injury.

The 19-year-old was absent from Borussia Dortmund’s final-day draw against Mainz 05 on Saturday, which handed the Bundesliga title to Bayern Munich.

Bellingham has been spotted having strapping on his knee when playing recently, yet that did not prevent him from being named Bundesliga Player of the Season.

As a result, the Daily Mail reports that Bellingham is ready to withdraw from the England squad ahead of the Euro 2024 qualifiers in June, amid concerns that he would require surgery.

Bellingham has played in England’s last ten games, but he will miss the upcoming double-header against Malta and North Macedonia, despite the Three Lions currently leading their qualification group.

Dortmund manager Edin Terzic revealed that leaving his captain on the bench was necessary move.

Terzic said: ‘He didn’t feel well before the game. He told us he didn’t feel ready to start and if we needed him, we could put him on for a couple of minutes. He was very sad and emotional but I’m quite sure he’s a winner.

The injury is unlikely to derail the midfielder’s intended move to Real Madrid, which is expected to be revealed in the coming weeks. The two clubs have agreed on an agreement worth £108m ($133m), with £87m ($107.4m) guaranteed and a further £21m ($26m) in performance-related add-ons.

The Dortmund star will be aiming to recover fast in order to report for pre-season duty at Real Madrid, who will begin preparations for the 2023-24 season in July.
