Ian Wright Admits Disappointment To See Player Leave Arsenal For Cheap

Ian Wright has expressed his disappointment in Arsenal for deciding to sell the goalkeeper to Aston Villa. Telling Emi Martinez that the Argentine was acquired for an extremely low price.

Emi Martinez and Ian Wright were having a conversation on the Premier League’s YouTube channel. And they discussed Martinez’s move to Aston Villa in 2020.

Of course, Mikel Arteta’s choice to continue using Bernd Leno as his starter coincided with Martinez’s departure. After Leno sustained an injury, Martinez performed superbly in the last weeks of that season.

Of course, Martinez was also someone who Arsenal would have loved to keep. He had, however, already focused on representing his nation by that point. He was then given the go-ahead to sign for the Villans in a £17 million deal.

Leno performed admirably prior to joining Fulham. Aaron Ramsdale was ultimately acquired by Arsenal. Martinez, meanwhile, fulfilled his dream of playing for Argentina and contributed to their World Cup victory.

Thus, everyone was pleased with the decision. However, Wright acknowledged that it made him sad to see him go from the Emirates.

“I can’t lie, I was disappointed to see you leave because in that moment, you were amazing,” Wright told Martinez.

“It must be tough though Emi when the manager says he’s my number one. I remember I sent you a message when you were leaving Arsenal, and I thought Villa got you for very, very cheap.”

However, Villa benefited from Arsenal’s choice. Additionally, the Gunners made a wise move of their own that allowed them to advance.

Martinez won’t look back on his choice with any remorse.
