Manchester City forward, Erling Haaland only joined the club 18 months ago, but his impact has been massive since his move from Borussia Dortmund.
In his first season at the Etihad, the 23-year-old striker scored an amazing 52 goals in 53 games. And he was crucial to City’s UEFA Champions League win for the first time and completing a historic treble.
The only negative for City is that there has been a lot of theories regarding when the superstar from Norway will choose to take on a new challenge.
The striker’s father, former City midfielder Alf-Inge, made remarks back in 2022 that have only added to the concerns that Haaland won’t be a permanent presence at the Etihad.
In response to rumors that his son was close to a dream transfer to Real Madrid, Haaland snr hinted during an interview for the documentary “Haaland: The Big Decision”. He claimed that his son would only play for the Premier League champions for “three or four years at the most.”
A reported £150 million release clause in the striker’s contract, which was set to go into effect the following summer, was reportedly canceled last year because it was related to Pep Guardiola’s future. Guardiola signed a contract extension until 2025 shortly after Haaland arrived.

Just days after suggesting he might sign a new contract, the City manager made hints this week that he wasn’t sure if he would stay with the team past next year.
Guardiola told reporters as reported by The Mirror: “We have to see how players’ behaviour is, whether we are keeping our standards. Next year will be nine seasons, which is a lot of time. Extending after two years is not the same as extending after nine. We have a lot of time [to decide]. But now I feel really good.”
