Gusto Claims Youthful Squad ‘Not An Excuse’ For Chelsea Failure

Chelsea defender, Malo Gusto has indicated the young squad the club possess is not an excuse for their failures this season.

The 20-year-old is targeting a Carabao cup final victory against Liverpool which he thinks could propel team and give them the momentum to finish strong amid their Premier League struggles.

Chelsea’s youthful team understands that taking home the trophy at Wembley could be the spark that ignites their journey. This is after going through periods of bad performance that have highlighted manager Mauricio Pochettino on multiple occasions this season.

Among the squad’s important players under the age of 25 are Gusto, Cole Palmer, Moisés Caicedo, Nicolas Jackson, Mykhailo Mudryk, and Conor Gallagher.

But the right-back stated that age shouldn’t be the rationale not to perform.

“Yes, we have to take the opportunity,” Gusto said as echoed by ESPN. “We don’t have a choice. We have to win every game. We are young but it is not an excuse.

“We have a lot of quality and we want to win everything. We are Chelsea. It’s a good opportunity for us to improve and keep pushing.

“Of course, I have a big chance, and the team as well, to win a trophy early in the season. I think it can be nice for our mentality to help us become better until the end of the season.”
