Gareth Southgate Contacts Ben White Over An England Recall

England coach Gareth Southgate has reportedly contacted Arsenal defender Ben White to gauge his interest in a recall to the national team.

White was called up to the England squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar after a strong start to the 2022-23 season at right-back.

However, the 25-year-old was already behind Kieran Trippier and Kyle Walker in the pecking order, and he was an unused replacement in their first two group games against Iran and the USA.

Prior to England’s final group encounter against Wales, it was reported that White would be departing the camp for personal reasons, and he did not return to the Middle East for the rest of the World Cup.

White was said to have had a falling out with assistant coach Steve Holland and to have struggled to gel with the rest of the group, but no official explanation was offered, and Southgate refused to comment on such reports at the time.

White has remained a steady presence in the center of Arsenal’s backline under Mikel Arteta, scoring two goals and providing five assists in 37 Premier League games this season.

The Three Lions’ Group C campaign will resume in June with games against Malta and North Macedonia, according to the Daily Mail, and White could be called up.

According to the report, Southgate has approached the Arsenal midfielder to see if he would be interested in returning to the club, and the door is open for him to do so because to his outstanding domestic season.

White made his first two senior England debuts in June 2021 and was subsequently called up to their Euro 2020 squad, however he did not play a single minute.
