David de Gea ‘To Be Offered Testimonial In New Man United Deal’

Manchester United are reportedly weighing offering David de Gea a testimonial as part of a potential new contract at Old Trafford.

The Spaniard’s contract with the Red Devils expires at the end of next month, but he is widely expected to sign a new contract with the 20-time English champions soon.

De Gea wants to stay, and Manchester United wants to keep him, but there appears to be a pay dispute at Old Trafford.

The 32-year-old currently serves as the club’s highest earner, earning £375,000 a week, but the Red Devils want him to take a significant pay cut in order to sign a new contract.

According to The Sun, Erik ten Hag’s representatives want the Spaniard’s salary cut by almost half, causing negotiations between the two parties to halt.

According to the report, Man United could offer De Gea a testimonial as part of the new contract, with an agreement being struck before the end of the season.

The former Atletico Madrid youth player, who joined the Red Devils in 2011, has made some high-profile errors this season, most notably against Sevilla in the Europa League and West Ham United in the Premier League.

However, De Gea has won the Premier League Golden Glove for the 2022-23 season after maintaining 17 clean sheets in England’s top division.

As Ten Hag’s squad prepares to face Chelsea and Fulham in their final two Premier League matches, the Spaniard will have the opportunity to finish the season with 19 Premier League shutouts.

Man United’s 1-0 win over Bournemouth on Saturday, along with Liverpool’s 1-1 draw at Aston Villa, have put the Red Devils on the verge of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.
