Manchester United have announced that Cristiano Ronaldo has left the club by mutual agreement with immediate effect following his explosive interview with Piers Morgan.
The 37-year-future old’s at Old Trafford has been a subject of conflict since the arrival of Erik ten Hag in the summer, but it reached its climax following an explosive interview Ronaldo granted earlier this month.
Just hours after Manchester United won their final game before the World Cup break, excerpts from an interview with Piers Morgan in which Ronaldo hurled a scathing attack on both the manager and the club were released.
In it, Ronaldo stated that the club had made little development since he left in 2009, while also stating that he does not respect Ten Hag, having fallen down the pecking order under the Dutchman.

The club have officially confirmed that they parted ways with Ronaldo by mutual consent, which means that the all-time leading goalscorer is now a free agent.
“Cristiano Ronaldo is to leave Manchester United by mutual agreement, with immediate effect,” read a statement from the club.
“The club thanks him for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford, scoring 145 goals in 346 appearances, and wishes him and his family well for the future.
“Everyone at Manchester United remains focused on continuing the team’s progress under Erik ten Hag and working together to deliver success on the pitch.”

Ronaldo also released his own statement following the news, saying: “Following talks with Manchester United, we’ve mutually agreed to end our contract.
“I love Manchester United and I love the fans, that will never ever change. It feels like the right time to seek a new challenge. I wish Man Utd all the best”.
Ronaldo is currently representing Portugal at the World Cup, where he hopes to lead his country to their first World Cup victory.
