Club Intensify Interest In Man United Long-Term Transfer Target

Aston Villa are reportedly pushing to sign Villarreal defender, Pau Torres in the summer transfer window.

After working with the 26-year-old at the Spanish club, Unai Emery is eager for a reunion.

Together, they defeated Manchester United to win the Europa League in the 2020/21 season.

The Spaniard is a long-term Manchester United transfer target. And it seems he has become a center of attention to the Birmingham-based club.

Currently, Villa are in the driver’s seat to sign the defender for £55 million.

The center back has made 173 appearances for Villarreal since making his bow in 2016 and has won 23 caps for Spain.

Son of Villarreal’s owner Fernando Roig Negueroles made a suggestion that the club might be compelled to sell.

Negueroles said: “Pau is a special case. He is a very loved boy at the club so to leave it has to be something that improves him. Something that is good for everyone.”

Torres has a clear skill, which makes it understandable why he has been linked with a few of the top clubs in Europe.

Former Premier League midfielder Danny Murphy told talkSPORT: “That would be a hell of a signing, by the way. He’s a Spanish international and a lovely footballer.

“He has good size and good presence. I don’t know if he plays right or left, so there will be competition for places but you need that.”

Emery will be looking to improve Aston Villa next season. He would be hoping to build on the momentum his side had towards the end of last season which secured them a 7th placed finish in the Premier League.
