Chelsea ‘Finalising Mauricio Pochettino Appointment Details’

Chelsea are reportedly getting closer appointing Mauricio Pochettino as the club’s next head coach, with only minor details left to iron out in negotiations.

Caretaker manager Frank Lampard will try to break Chelsea’s five-game losing streak against London rivals Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Chelsea have now plummeted to 12th place in the Premier League rankings, and attention are already turning to next season, which will not include any European action.

It has been widely speculated for more than a week and a half that Pochettino, the former head coach of Tottenham Hotspur, will take over the dugout at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea begun the process of finding a permanent replacement for Graham Potter by being linked to a number of players, including Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique.

However, according to 90min, the club’s owners did not consider anyone other than Pochettino as the Argentine impressed at the start of the selection process.

Chelsea now believe they are in a position to confirm the arrival of the 51-year-old within days, according to the report.

Club officials are understood to have held more talks over the weekend, with only ‘minor details’ left to sign later this week.

Pochettino is said to be in attendance when Chelsea face the Premier League title-chasing Gunners, but it remains to be seen whether that will happen given the attention that it would draw from what is a crucial match.

When Pochettino arrives in June, it is expected that he will have a major say in which players can stay or leave Chelsea in the summer.
