Chelsea Extend Long-Term Contracts For Key Duo

Chelsea have reportedly exercised the option to extend the contracts of Enzo Fernandez and Mykhailo Mudryk into their 30s.

According to FA documents as cited by The Evening Standard, Fernandez has eight years remaining on his £180,000 per week contract, which expires in 2032. And Mudryk has seven years remaining on his £97,000 per week contract, which expires in 2031.

When Fernandez’s contract expires, he will be 31 years old, and Mudryk will be 30.

In January 2023, Chelsea signed Fernandez from Benfica for £106.8 million. During the same transfer window, Mudryk joined for £88.5 million from Shakhtar Donetsk.

With so much remaining on their contracts, it is unclear why Chelsea exercised their options to extend them.

Lewis Hall’s contract was also extended for the previous campaign. But he initially signed with Newcastle on a season-long loan, which will be made permanent if the Magpies submit £28 million this summer.

Data on Fernandez, Mudryk, and Hall were made available by the FA last week as an element of their annual report on agent payments.

The report also revealed that Chelsea paid a record-breaking £75.1 million in agent fees in the 12 months leading up to February 2024. While Manchester City paid out £60.6 million, topping the charts with a £51.5 million expenditure the previous year.

With £34 million, Manchester United were next highest, ahead of Liverpool with £31.5 million and Arsenal with £24.7 million.

Chelsea FC Holdings Ltd. released its financial statements last week, revealing the club’s £91.1 million pre-tax loss for the 2022–2023 season.

Despite their £121.4 million loss in 2021–2022, Chelsea are adamant that they will continue to adhere to Premier League profit and sustainability rules.
