Brazil star Arthur tells Barca he has no intention to play for them again

Arthur Melo wants to end his time with Barcelona – immediately.

Marca says the midfielder has informed Barcelona that he has no intention to play for the club again.

The Brazilian agreed to join Juventus last month in a £66million move with Barcelona asking that he see out this season with them as part of the deal.

However, he has told the club that he now wants to finish his contract earlier as he is aware he would not be given more game time.

Following his transfer to Juventus, Quique Setien stopped relying on the Brazilian midfielder in the last stretch of the LaLiga Santander season, and Arthur is unhappy with the treatment.

Arthur has not appeared after the Barcelona squad were given the week off by his coach following the end of the LaLiga Santander campaign, despite being summoned to take a COVID-19 test.

The rest of the Blaugrana players returned and passed their coronavirus tests on Monday.

Arthur has also requested that Barcelona terminate what is left of his contract – until the end of the Champions League – and is currently in talks to do so.

The 23-year old promised teammates and staff that he would give his best until the end of the campaign with Barca still to face Napoli in the Champions League next month.

Yet since then, under fire coach Quique Setien has not played him at all.

Arthur believes it is Setien’s way of protecting the club due to the fans’ negative reaction to his transfer.
