Salah gives emotional goodbye to ‘great friend’ Lovren as defender joins Zenit

Mohamed Salah gave an emotional goodbye to his ‘great friend’ Dejan Lovren after Liverpool confirmed the defender had sealed a permanent move to Zenit St Petersburg.

Salah and Lovren built up a strong friendship during their time at Anfield with the Egyptian joining the club three years after the centre-back had arrived from Southampton in 2014.

In a video posted by the club’s Twitter account, Salah gave an emotional farewell.

He said: ‘I don’t know how to say my friend, you don’t know my feeling right now but we’re really gonna miss you a lot, especially me.

‘You’ve been an unbelievable player and great friend for me.

‘We’re gonna miss you a lot, I miss you a lot, I love you so much.

‘You’ve been fantastic outside the field and inside the field so thank you for everything you did for the club. Thank you for everything you did for me.

‘I wish you all the best in the future, I wish you a great career as well and to enjoy the new club with your family. Thank you very much and see you soon.’

The defender made 185 appearances in a six-year spell at Anfield, playing an important role in the Reds’ Champions League victory in 2019 and helping secure the Premier League title this season.

He has signed a three-year deal with the Russian Premier League side, who ended their season as champions.
