Jude Bellingham gave an honest evaluation of his own performance following England’s disappointing 0-0 draw with Ghana at the 2026 World Cup.
The Real Madrid midfielder argued that his opponents should have won Player of the Match for their tenacious defensive performance in Boston.
Bellingham found himself in the centre of the post-match conversation in a game where Thomas Tuchel’s team battled to overcome a tough low block coordinated by former Real Madrid manager Carlos Queiroz.
After a frustrating night, the midfielder was quick to dismiss the recognition even though he was officially named the standout player. He said that he didn’t think he had done enough to deserve the individual gong.
Bellingham Admits
According to Goal, while speaking to reporters after the final whistle, Bellingham was surprisingly candid about the decision. “I didn’t deserve it, to be honest,” he said.
“It probably should have gone to one of their lads who defended so well. Had a couple of moments, it was hard to get into the game and I’m grateful for whoever voted, but it probably should have gone to one of their lads who defended so well. So fair play to them.”
Even though the performance left a sour taste, it was still a historic night. Bellingham broke Wayne Rooney’s record by becoming the youngest player to earn 50 caps for the England national team at the age of just 22 years and 359 days.

However, individual records mattered little to Bellingham compared to the final score. “Like always it is second game fever isn’t it with England,” he noted.
Following their 0-0 draw with Scotland at Euro 2020, England have drawn the second game of a major tournament four times in a row.
“Win the first one, do well, and then draw the second one,” Bellingham continued.
“But it’s okay. I think they played for a draw as it would have seen them go through and fair play to them, they did a great job.”
