Chelsea are reportedly rapidly closing in on a deal to sign Marco Palestra from Serie A side Atalanta which is going to intensify their summer transfer window.
A deal is anticipated to be finalized within hours, according to David Ornstein, who revealed an acceleration of the deal on Tuesday via The Athletic.
Palestra spent the previous season on loan at Cagliari, and Inter Milan had hoped to sign him, but it seems the 21-year-old couldn’t resist the allure of the Premier League.
According to Football Transfers, Palestra and Chelsea have not yet reached a personal agreement, although, there are no anticipated issues because the player’s salary demands align with the stringent framework BlueCo has established at the Stamford Bridge.
Palestra’s Positional Play
Although Palestra frequently played on the right wing-back of Cagliari’s 3-5-2 formation last season, he is actually far more than that. He can play on either side of the defence. Last season, he was a central midfield player who occasionally played as both a 6 and an 8.
Alonso, who appears to be preparing for a season playing with wing-backs, finds this versatility appealing.

The 21-year-old is courageous with the ball as well. He is a player who wins a remarkably high number of fouls. He won his team 108 free kicks in Serie A last season, which was by far the most in the league. No other player did, in fact, win more than 82 fouls.
The majority of his strengths are offensive. Palesta was one of Serie A’s top dribblers and crossers among full-backs and wing-backs last season, according to data analytics company SciSports.
Although his role was more forward-thinking, he is not very great on defence.
