Bayern Munich Join Race For Napoli Defender Kim Min-Jae

The South Korea international has become of Europe’s hottest defensive properties, having been one of Napoli’s star players as they won their first Scudetto in 33 years last campaign. Kim had looked to be on his way to Old Trafford after it was reported that United had triggered the defender’s release clause. However, recent information from Foot Mercato suggests that Bayern are now in the running.

According to the source, the Bundesliga winners will likely offer Kim £8.5m ($10.7m) each year to entice him away from the Premier League heavyweights. Bayern’s offer follows the revelation that defender Lucas Hernandez told the club he wanted to depart for Paris Saint-Germain. Benjamin Pavard, a fellow Frenchman, has also been connected with a move away from Bavaria.
Bayern appear to be looking for a defensive rearrangement, which is a huge setback for Erik ten Hag’s intentions. While Victor Lindelof appears to be on his way out, Harry Maguire appears to be on his way out as well. Because of Raphael Varane’s injury history and Lisandro Martinez’s present long-term metatarsal problem, United has very little defensive depth, thus losing Kim would be devastating.

Before a decision is made, the South Korean will reportedly be required to carry out military service for his country. After that, though, it seems likely that his future lies outside of Naples.
