Barcelona, Tottenham Set For Joan Gamper Trophy On August 8th

Barcelona have finalized the Gamper Trophy’s schedule and will meet Tottenham on August 8 at Montjuic in their traditional season curtain raiser.

The match will be Barca’s last friendly before their opening match of the new season and comes following the team’s preseason trip of the United States.

On August 13, Barcelona are scheduled to start defending their La Liga crown away at Getafe.

Ange Postecoglou’s side also begin their new campaign at London rivals Brentford on August 13.

Tottenham have played in the Gamper Trophy before, back in 1986 when there were four teams involved, but haven’t played Barca at Montjuic before.

The Spanish champions are unbeaten in the fixture since 2012 and Spurs will become the first English side to compete in the Gamper Trophy twice, having previously taken part in 1986 when it was a four-team tournament and losing out to PSV Eindhoven on penalties.

Spurs are under new management after appointing Ange Postecoglou as their new coach, and he will be aiming for an improvement after a disappointing campaign last year.

Postecoglou will also be hoping to keep hold of top scorer Harry Kane who is currently being heavily linked with a summer move to Bayern Munich.
