Barcelona Suffer Double Injury Blow In Athletic Club Stalemate

Barcelona duo, Frenkie De Jong and Pedri Gonzalez sustained injuries in the club’s goalless draw against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday at the San Mames Stadium.

The league clash ended in stalemate as the Catalan giants are now eight points behind the league leaders, Real Madrid.

Barca’s inability to secure all three points was made worse by the injuries that both Pedri and De Jong sustained in the first half.

After being challenged for a high ball and landing awkwardly on his ankle, De Jong had to be substituted in the 26th minute.

According to SportMole, the problem prevented the Dutchman, who was playing for Barcelona for the 150th time, from continuing, and 20-year-old midfielder, Fermin Lopez had to take his place.

Due to an ankle problem, De Jong has already missed almost two months of the season. As a result, he looks to be a serious doubt for the second leg of the Champions League last-16 match against Napoli, which is scheduled for March 12 at Montjuic.

Pedri, who got knocked off during the last minutes of the first period at San Mames, is also preparing for a stint on the sidelines.

The Spain international was clearly upset as he made his way to the bench after appearing to suffer his third muscle injury of the season.

Pedri missed three competitive games in December and January after suffering a hamstring injury that kept him out of action for two months at the beginning of the season.

Pedri has played in 23 games for Barcelona so far this season, whereas De Jong has made 27 appearances.
