Barcelona Set To Make A Move For Manchester City Striker

Julian Alvarez is the subject of interest from Barcelona, claims Argentine journalist Cesar Luis Merlo.

Recent inquiries by the Blaugrana were made to determine a potential course of action. The 23-year-old is also open to leaving  Manchester City during the summer transfer window.

Julian Alvarez has gone from strength to strength thus far in professional football.

The Argentine international first rose to prominence at River Plate before moving to England. He arrived at the Etihad last summer and has been a handy contributor for Manchester City this season.

The 23-year-old has a solid tally of ten goals and two assists in less than 1,500 minutes of action.

Alvarez was also a pivotal figure as Argentina won the 2022 FIFA World Cup. And the youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed either, with Barcelona among his prospective suitors.

Barcelona signed a striker last summer, bringing Robert Lewandowski over from Bayern Munich. And the Polish striker has been top-class, rising to the top of the goalscoring charts in La Liga. But Barcelona will need to be ready for life after Lewandowski, as the veteran Pole is well into his thirties.

And according to Cesar Luis Merlo, the Catalan giants were recently in touch with pivotal figures to hash out a deal.

It is unclear how Barcelona’s approach went, but Alvarez is open to departing from the Etihad. However, the young striker will only leave on loan as he envisions a future at Manchester City.
