Barcelona identify €75 million-rated striker as Plan B To Alvarez

FC Barcelona is looking for a new top centre-forward ahead of the summer transfer window in 2026.

As previously reported, Atletico Madrid great Julian Alvarez is Barcelona’s favorite target.

However, any bid for the Argentine international is unlikely to be easy because Atletico do not want to trade him in the summer.

Victor Osimhen emerged as an alternative.

As a result, Mundo Deportivo says that FC Barcelona is looking into other options for the striker position while Julian Alvarez’s future remains uncertain.

Within the club, several choices remain for the No. 9 position, all of which meet the desired profile. Barça has been planning for quite some time, knowing that this is a position that would most certainly require reinforcement during the summer transfer window.

One of the names on the table is Galatasaray and Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen, albeit he is not regarded the best option among the possibilities.

The 27-year-old has returned to limelight after two successful seasons with Galatasaray, where he scored 56 goals in 70 games. He is under contract until 2029.

While Osimhen’s profile is admired, doubts about his disposition remain, which contributed to a tough departure from Napoli in 2024.

Vlahovic and Sesko ruled out

Meanwhile, according to the source, other forwards have been linked with Barcelona but are no longer being considered.

Dusan Vlahovic was regarded as a potential bargain on the market, having declined to renew his contract with Juventus despite recent conversations. While he could join on a free transfer, the Catalans do not see him as a good fit to lead the attack.

Benjamin Sesko was rated as a future possibility last year before departing RB Leipzig for Manchester United for €76.5 million. However, he has failed to meet expectations at Old Trafford, and Barcelona does not see him as an option.

Meanwhile, despite not being a primary striker, left winger Rafael Leao had earlier piqued attention. However, he is no longer in Barça’s plans due to disappointing performances with AC Milan.
