Xavi: “We Can’t Afford To Bring In Any More Players In January.”

According to Sports Mole, Barcelona’s head coach Xavi has announced that the team won’t be adding any new players to Camp Nou this month because of the team’s well-known financial difficulties.

Vitor Roque, 18, officially joined the La Liga champions from Athletico Paranaense at the beginning of this month, although it was originally anticipated that he would finish his transfer to the Catalan team in July.

Due to injuries, Barcelona is currently without six players: Gavi, Inigo Martinez, Raphinha, Joao Cancelo, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, and Marcos Alonso.

Additionally, due to suspension, Ronald Araujo and Lamine Yamal will not be able to play in Thursday’s Copa del Rey match against Unionistas.

Xavi has stated that Barcelona won’t be able to add to their roster before the January transfer window closes, despite some suggestions to the contrary.

“Barca would not be able to afford it. We have to find a way to compete. We are in one of the most difficult situations in the club’s history,” Xavi told reporters during Wednesday’s press conference.

“I have encountered difficulties from day one. I am a Cule and I want to pull the cart. I’m the first to encourage the players. It’s complicated but we are competing.”

Xavi also opened up on Gavi’s absence, with the Spain international out for the remainder of the season due to the serous knee injury that he suffered while representing his country towards the end of last year.

“Gavi’s injury is a stab in the heart. It is a reality. Or the injury to Ter Stegen, who is one of the captains. These are not excuses, it’s a reality. The economic situation is a reality. We will continue to fight. There is only one Gavi in the world. It is difficult to replace such a player. We miss him,” he added.

While Martinez, Raphinha, and Cancelo shouldn’t be sidelined for too long, Ter Stegen and Alonso are unlikely to be ready for Barcelona before March.

The club’s legendary midfielder, Xavi, has insisted that he still has the support of the team despite rumors to the contrary. These rumors have raised questions about Xavi’s future.

Barcelona has not played in La Liga since defeating Las Palmas 2-1 at the beginning of the month, but they will play three league games in quick succession against Real Betis, Villarreal, and Osasuna before the end of January.

The Catalan team is still playing in the Champions League as well. On February 21 and March 12, respectively, the first and second legs of their last-16 matchup against Italian champions Napoli will take place.
