Wenger Predicts Premier League Champions As City Close-In On Arsenal

Despite Manchester City closing the points differential over the weekend, Arsene Wenger still believes that Arsenal will win the Premier League title.

The Gunners lost a two-goal advantage at West Ham on Sunday, drawing 2-2. After watching Manchester City defeat Leicester City 3-1 on Saturday.

With eight games remaining in the Premier League season, Pep Guardiola’s team has already closed the gap on league leaders Arsenal to four points. And they also have a game in hand.

Given that Arsenal still needs to go to the Etihad Stadium to play City next week. Many experts and supporters now consider Man City to be the favourites to win the championship.

But Wenger, who oversaw Arsenal from October 1996 to May 2018, continues to believe that his former club can defeat the Cityzens and win the title.

“Arsenal and these players have not been in the position to win the league before,” Wenger told beIN SPORTS.

“Hopefully they win it this year and next year it will be easier. But now, when you have never won it, there will be a moment in the season when the tension comes in.

“When you start thinking more about the need to win than the process and how to play, it gets difficult. I felt that at Arsenal when I was there too.”

Asked if Man City are now favourites for the Premier League title, Wenger replied: “No, no, no. I would say Arsenal still [will win the title].

“What you want in this position is to have things in your hand. If Arsenal win their games, they win the league so that’s an ideal position with a few games to go.”
