Wenger out of Bayern running

Arsene Wenger appears to be out of the running to take over as Bayern Munich boss. Arsenal legend Wenger was heavily linked with the Bundesliga giants, who dispensed with the services of Niko Kovac following last weekend’s 5-1 defeat at Eintracht Frankfurt, and reports say he was under consideration by Bayern chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
However, it is claimed Bayern were only wanting to appoint the Frenchman on a short-term basis until the end of the current season and Wenger was against that idea, preferring to sign at least a two-year deal as he looks to return to management after his exit from the Gunners at the end of the 2017-18 season.
Wenger made it clear he was interested in taking control at Allianz-Arena but the club were not willing to meet his demands and it seems they will look elsewhere for a new manager.
Bayern appointed Hansi Flick as caretaker boss after Kovac’s exit and he got off to a good start as the Bavarian giants beat Olympiacos 2-0 on Wednesday to seal their place in the knockout stage of the Champions League and could yet stay on for the rest of the campaign.
Other managers linked with the post included Paris Saint-Germain coach Thomas Tuchel, Ajax boss Erik ten Hag, and ex-RB Leipzig manager Rangnick but they have all ruled themselves out of the running.
Former Bayern midfielder Xabi Alonso is believed to be another option, with the Spaniard currently in charge of Real Sociedad B.
Flick will stay in charge for the first Der Klassiker of the German season when Bayern host Borussia Dortmund on Saturday evening.
