Wenger has one ‘regret’ after Arsenal’s 2-0 victory over Basel

Arsene Wenger admits Arsenal should have scored more than two goals in Wednesday’s victory over Basel.

Two first-half goals from Theo Walcott were enough to beat the Swiss champions, but the Gunners failed to replicate their impressive opening 45 minutes after the break.

And while Wenger praised his side’s performance, the 66-year-old concedes that he wanted more goals from his players.

‘The game was of quality, the win was comfortable, the only regret, maybe, is that we didn’t score enough goals, considering what we created,’ he told BT Sport.

‘Overall, I must say we’ve seen some excellent football tonight.

When asked about the drop in intensity after half-time, Wenger said: ‘It’s a bit inevitable, I wouldn’t like it to be inevitable, but I think it was similar to Saturday [against Chelsea], first half of excellent pace, second half was a little bit slower.’
