Wenger: There is no problem with Ozil anymore

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed Mesut Ozil will be available for selection for the Gunners’ game against Watford on Saturday.

Ozil has played just 11 minutes in Arsenal’s past six games across all competitions due to a knee injury and was not called up by Germany during the recent international break.

The German returned to training last week and was videoed focussing specifically on his knee, however, Wenger did warn the German may not be back to his best just yet.

“He was not available for Germany, but he is now available yes,” Wenger told reporters.

“He had a whole week training, he is maybe not completely back physically to his best but he is available.

“There is no problem anymore.”

The news comes just days after Ozil’s agent revealed talks had started over a new deal, with the German’s current contract running out at the end of the season.

Since joining Arsenal on the summer transfer deadline day in 2013, Ozil has shone in the Premier League, using his passing ability to link up well with his team-mates.

The German’s best season to date came during the 2015/16 season when, Arsenal finished second for the first time since 2005.

Ozil averaged 4.27 chances created with 0.56 assists per 90 minutes while completing 87% of his passes, with only his goalscoring record letting him down.

Despite receiving a lot of criticism for his performances, last season was Ozil’s best for goals, scoring eight at an average of 0.25 per 90 minutes.

This season, Ozil has created more chances than any other Arsenal player – 15 at an average of 3.64 per 90 – however, they have yet to yield any assists and the German is also waiting on his first goal.
