Walcott reveals Everton first-team target

Theo Walcott is determined to stay in Everton boss Marco Silva’s first-team plans this season and help the side climb up the Premier League table. The 30-year-old forward scored six goals in 40 appearances in all competitions last season, having joined the Toffees from Arsenal in a deal worth around £20million in January 2018.
However, Walcott endured a frustrating start to this term after he had to step off the bench in the opening for games, before suffering a head injury on his first start, a 3-1 home defeat against Manchester City on September 28.
He was forced to miss the 1-0 defeat at Burnley the following week because of concussion, but he has since become a key part of Silva’s plans.
Indeed, Walcott has only missed an hour of action in the following four matches, having stated all of them.
The 47-capped England international’s run in the side has coincided with an upturn in results for the Toffees with wins against West Ham and his former club Southampton and a draw against Tottenham.
A 3-2 defeat at Brighton is the only blot on the copybook, but Walcott has been pleased with his contribution, while he is hoping that the Merseysiders are now set to start moving up the table.
He told Everton.tv: “Obviously I’ve worked very hard to get into the starting line-up and I just want to stay there. Results have picked up as well which is always a positive when you’re in the team; the team is winning and doing well.”
Walcott added: “The manager has given me a chance to get back in the team and I thank him for that and hopefully I can just stay there and the team can keep climbing up the table.”
Everton will have an opportunity to extend their six-point cushion over the relegation places after the international break when they welcome Norwich City to Goodison Park next weekend.
