Canada find themselves in an unusual World Cup situation in the 96-year history of the competition.
Despite a 2-1 loss against Switzerland in Vancouver, where Johan Manzambi and Ruben Vargas both scored goals, Jesse Marsch’s team advanced to the round of 32.
Canada finished second in Group B ahead of Bosnia and Herzegovina thanks to superior goal difference thanks to a goal from Promise David in the 76th minute.
Canada have advanced to the World Cup knockout stages for the first time in their history on their third attempt.

As one of the three co-hosts, all three of their group games were played at home. Canada’s first match was against Bosnia in Toronto, followed by matches against Switzerland and Qatar in Vancouver.
However, they now give up home advantage for the next round since they were unable to prevent losing to the Swiss.
On Sunday, they will meet South Africa in a historic match at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
Canada Set To Create History
And according to Sport Bible, this will be the first time a host country has participated in a World Cup match in a different country.
There will still be three games played in Canada; Toronto and Vancouver will host the round of 32 matches, whilst the latter will host a round of 16 match to finish their hosting.
Since winning group B would have allowed them to continue playing at home, Canada are solely to blame for not playing in front of their own supporters.
In the event that the Reds defeat South Africa, their round of 16 match will also be held in Houston, Texas, on July 4.
The United States and Mexico will play their round of 32 games and possible round of 16 matches at home because they won their respective groups.
