UK Parliament To Discuss Points Deduction As Everton Premier League Row Escalates

Following Everton’s 10-point deduction by an independent Premier League Commission, Labour MP for West Derby Ian Byrne condemned the act as the UK Parliament is set to take the matter up.

After a good start to the season under Sean Dyche, the Toffees have found themselves back in the center of the relegation battle, as their financial woes continue to wreak havoc at Goodison Park.

According to existing regulations, English top-flight clubs are allowed to lose a maximum of £105 million during a three-year period. But Everton were deemed to have lost £124.5 million in 2021–2022.

As a result, the Toffees received the highest sporting penalty in Premier League history – a massive 10-point deduction. Despite winning four games this season, Dyche’s side are now tied with 20th placed Burnley on the same points.

What Did The UK Parliament Say About Everton’s 10-Point Deduction?

Daily Express has now claimed that Byrne has responded by submitting an early-day resolution to the House of Commons, which members will be debating this week.

“This House condemns the grossly unjust points deduction imposed on Everton Football Club by a Premier League Commission.

“A punishment lacking any legal or equitable foundation or justification for the level of sanction,” part of the motion read.

“Financial-not-sporting penalties for far more severe breaches have been applied, including the industry-and-community-threatening European Super League.”

Everton will file an appeal against their penalty after the commission rejected many mitigating circumstances. The club brought up the interest payments on their brand-new facility, which is now being built in Bramley Moore Dock.

The Merseyside club avoided relegation last season by the skin of their teeth. And they will attempt to avoid it this time around when they play Manchester United at home on Sunday. A victory may move them out of the drop zone right away.
